Kate and Abel
A slow fashion treasure trove for unique, one-off items you won't find anywhere else.
Sophie says her grandmother had an incredible collection of antiques at her home which she kept impeccable, while her mother has always been a collector, taking Sophie "fossicking" at art auctions, op shops or even the side of the road, since she was a small child.
Their store on South Terrace, in the middle of hip South Fremantle, was born out of a need to find more space for their collections and a desire to share their discoveries with others who have a love of unique one-of-a-kind things.
"It's anything and everything. It could be old tools, it could be antique jewellery, it could be something we found washed up on the beach. It's just things we love", says Sophie of the items that line the store's cabinets.
"Some people come in here and say they feel like they're at home. It's nostalgic, they might feel like they're at their grandmother's house or might see something they recognise from travels overseas, and it transports them. You could be in France, or India… or anywhere."
There is new clothing and accessories from international brands, like LA-based Lacausa, San Sebastian's Indi & Cold and the Greek label JohnP, as well as Australian designers, such as perennial summer-wardrobe favourite Faithfull The Brand, monochromatic slow-fashion label Bare by Charlie Holiday, Bimby & Roy's playful intimates and Will and Bear's woollen hats.
Local Fremantle brands are also showcased, including clothing-label Wild Horses, bespoke handmade jewellery by Benjamin and the Moon and natural skin-care line Rohr Remedy.
The mother-daughter duo also stock their own label, "Sophie Morris", a trans-seasonal collection made locally by a family-run production using quality natural fabrics, like linen and cotton, as well as sourced offcuts of fabric.
"We choose items that are designed to be timeless and sustainable. They're not just worn once then discarded", says Sophie of the carefully curated selection.
Part of the fun of visiting Ginger Morris is sifting through the treasures and seeing what the Morris' have found.
"It's always going to be an ever-evolving space. Next year we might not have clothing. We might have art - never say never, it can always change," Sophie says.
