With news of the Western Australian border reopening on 3 March, there is much to celebrate. And Fremantle continues to showcase itself as an exciting city for locals and travellers alike in the creative arts, foodie events, music and seaside escapes.
Perth Festival
Australia's longest-running arts festival, Perth Festival, continues with an exciting collection of performances and exhibitions, including 'Undertow' at Fremantle Arts Centre until the end of April. The Pecha Kucha Karaoke side event, hosted by The Slipperies (Grace Connors and Rose KB), takes place on 11 March as an after-hours music fest with a curated list of thematically related tunes. Just BYOV (bring your own voice).
Sculptures at Bathers
Returning to Bathers Beach for its fifth year, S@B5 is a free outdoor exhibition featuring 70 artworks by 73 established artists. Be it oceanside, along the sand, or on the boardwalks, you can see the sculptures in situ until 7 March.
Blue Honey at MOJO's
Indie rock delights Blue Honey are celebrating the release of their debut single 'Colin' with a special show at Mojo's on 13 March hosting "the hottest dance party for sad people". With a thumping line-up of supporting acts too - Spici Water, Veruca Moon, Jewel Owusu.
SummerSalt
Some of Australia's best live music acts take over the Esplanade in Fremantle on 6 March for a day of sounds and sunshine. Missy Higgins, The Waifs, Pete Murray and local songstress Banjo Lucia headline SummerSalt 2022 festival. Check the complete listing here. Wine n' Dine Tours
New on the block, Wine n' Dine Tours offer a premium foodie experience featuring four incredible venues in the form of a self-guided four-course progressive lunch. It's a unique opportunity to spend an afternoon visiting some of Freo's best local venues to enjoy an all-inclusive wine and dining experience. 12 March.
Courtyard Gin Masterclass at Mrs Brown
In the leafy confines of Mrs Brown in North Freo, join Wade Willcocks, founder and distiller of Wandering Distillery, for an evening of craft gin education whilst sipping unique award-winning gins. This intimate masterclass by Meet the Maker connects gin lovers to the makers behind their favourite brands. 9 March.
Haiku Hunt Club
New resto on Wray Ave, Haiku Freo serves up a Japanese inspired menu and a love of fine flavours, including the stiff stuff: Japanese whisky, a few cheeky gins, sake, umeshu, and 2 Keys Coffee. With their Haiku Hunt Club, Chef Lockie brings out the big guns serving up a meat feast featuring Margaret River Wagyu and an exotic Hunters Grazing Board with cocktails (Grapefruit Negroni, anyone?). 18 March. With a vegan festa on 11 March.
100 Mile Dinner at Harbourside Freo
Be taken on a culinary journey with this dining experience at Harbourside Freo with a menu sourced locally by sustainability-focused producers with wines by Swan Valley-based Sittella Wines. All produce is from within 100 miles of Fremantle. The producers will be your dining companion as they discuss their sustainable practices with you on the night. 24 March.
Young George + Old Young's Distillery
Young George chef Meliss Palinkas and head chef Rohan Park from Old Young's Distillery unite for a dinner collab showcasing Australian native ingredients paired with bespoke beverages prepared with Old Young's spirit range. Drag Bingo at Old Courthouse
Fay Rocious and Cougar Morrison host Drag Bingo at the newly refurbed Old Courthouse on 1 March at 7pm. Expect a night a little raucous and risqué. It's free – though you can book ahead here.
Lord of the Rings Trivia at Tradewinds
Tradewinds Trivia night is back with an epic Lord Of The Rings theme on 3 March. Gather your fellowship and head to the beer garden for a night that promises to lead you to magical prizes. Drink specials are also up for grabs.

An Evening with the Collection
A new quarterly event series at Fremantle Arts Centre hosted by the Collection's Curator Andre Lipscombe. A relaxed evening of conversation begins on 23 March at 6:30pm. Each event will explore a theme, artform or artist and investigate the importance and value of public art collections. Entry is free.
Life Drawing at DaRawNature
Head to 5 Henry Street, Fremantle, within the confines of DaRawNature Coffee Lounge for their life drawing classes every Tuesday from 7 - 9pm. $15.
Drink & Draw at The Local
Life Drawing every Wednesday night in The Garage at The Local from 6.45pm. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a complete beginner, everyone is welcome. With life models and live music, just bring your own materials. $20 entry or $25 if you use the materials provided. Book via drinkdrawwa@gmail.com
Art at Akashara
Artist Di Harnett is hosting an adult and child art workshop at Akashara in South Fremantle designed for beginners or those with a little experience for a fun morning learning technical drawing skills. It's a step-by-step process of drawing portraits with realism focusing on value and form before the adult and child swap papers and unleash their imagination on each other's artwork. 5 March from 10am.
Saturday Night Fever at Frida's
Paint your own groovy rendition of David Bowie while you sing along to your fave 80's tunes. Dress in your 80's best to win some cheeky prizes too at "Music to my Ears" at Frida's Sip n’ Paint on 19 March at 6.30pm. It's time to travel back to the '80s, baby!
French Film Festival at Luna on SX
The Alliance Francaise French Film Festival returns to Luna on SX from 9 March, presenting the crème-de-la-crème of contemporary French cinema over four weeks. The 33rd edition of this famous festival boasts over 42 feature films, covering a broad spectrum of genres, including several Australian premieres.
It's that time of the year we all get a little jiggy (in the best sense) on St Patrick's Day and celebrate all things Irish.
Old Courthouse
On 17 March, the Old Courthouse hosts live music from 5.30pm from Old Gray Irish Duo. While behind the bar, $10 Guinness pints and $10 Jameson Irish Whiskey are pouring all day, with Irish food specials and Irish Dancers from 5pm.
Hand in Hand
Kidogo Irish Aboriginal Festival explores and celebrates Fremantle's lesser-known connection between Irish and Indigenous cultures at the Kidogo Arthouse's stunning Bathers Beach venue over 17 and 18 March.
