The Best Places for Wellness in Fremantle

Whether you’re looking to pick up organic produce, grab a healthy meal out, indulge in self-care or keep active, the portside city has you covered.

By Jade Barker

Freo’s laid-back atmosphere and strong arts scene has long attracted a bohemian crowd.

While in recent years it's shaken off its hippy reputation for just plain hip, it remains a wellness hub for anyone seeking serenity – inside and out.

We’ve rounded up the best spots to help you live your best life in Fremantle.

GET PHYSICAL

There’s no shortage of places to get your sweat or stretch on around Freo while also spending time in a serene space that’ll make you truly feel Zen.

YOGALAB

Set in a 200 square meter converted warehouse, with exposed brick walls, jarrah floors and a pitched ceiling, Yogalab gives off New York loft vibes in the centre of Fremantle. Classes range from a chilled “slow mo flow” to a power vinyasa, all set to a magic music setlist on a state-of-the-art sound system.

North Fremantle Pilates

Across the Swan River, North Fremantle Pilates recently opened with its chic studio designed to embrace WA’s “unique western sunsets”. There are five different levels of reformer Pilates classes that cater to everyone from complete beginners to absolute pros

You Wellness Club

Another newbie, this time on the outskirts of Freo’s east, You Wellness Club is more than just a fitness studio. Sure, there are strength, HIIT and Pilates classes, but there’s also an on-site nutritionist and sauna, for an all-round indulgent wellness experience.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

You know how the saying goes; you are what you eat. Luckily there are several venues around Fremantle that’ll help you glow from the inside out.

Mother

Mother is a high-concept eatery that ticks all the healthy boxes: plant-based, seasonally focused and wholefood ingredients. While that might sound a bit limited, the menu is anything but, with inventive Mediterranean-inspired dishes, for both lunch and dinner. Set in the same warehouse space as YogaLab, it’s the ideal place for a little feast after your fitness.

TLC

Over towards South Freo, The Little Concept is a small cafe with big ideas, serving up homemade chai, turmeric lattes, raw food sweet treats and wholesome salads. It’s popular with a local Wray Avenue crowd who take to the pavement for a side of Vit-D with their food dishes.

Manna

It’s easy to understand why this store cum café is a Fremantle staple for wellness warriors. Manna is a one-stop shop for all your health needs: you can stock up on fresh produce in the grocery section, peruse their holistic beauty brands, then grab a snack or a lunch plate from the in-house deli to eat al fresco on the terrace, or to take-away.

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS

Looking to make your day-to-day home life better? These Fremantle stores are full of fresh and eco ideas to fill your house.

Zero Store

Pop into Zero Store and browse the selection of products from personal care to kitchenware, which aims to make living a zero-waste, plastic-free life a breeze. There’s everything from cosmetics, children’s toys, homewares, and cleaning products, as well as plenty of eco storage solutions.

The Storehouse

Once you’ve picked up your reusable containers, make your way over to The Storehouse Fremantle. It offers the “complete supermarket” experience without the needless packaging with a focus on pantry items. The female-owned business sources local, sustainable, and organic produce, from herbs to olive oil, honey, to raw grains and cereals, from dispense containers without plastic packaging.

Nourish Health

In Fremantle city centre, Nourish Health is a pharmacy with a difference. Here they take a holistic approach, valuing the ideas that “prevention is better than cure” and that “food can be medicine”. There’s an instore compounding lab where they create bespoke supplements and medicines, from tinctures to tablets, as well as on-site nutrition consultants. Plus, you can pick up some eco-friendly homewares, natural skin care products or even some healthy snacks to take home.
