Head to the Federal Hotel for a fun and affordable Thursday night courtesy of Fremantle Comedy Factory.
At Luna, you can catch an indie classic or the hottest new international release, enjoy an arresting Australian made film or watch a niche documentary all from the comfort of your plush velvet seat.
"We are in the business of creating memories, making space for diversity and celebrating filmmakers," says Luna's Publicity and Marketing Manager, Tony Bective. "It's all about sharing that collective, cinematic experience."
With only four film screening rooms, each space has an intimate feel, lined with red velvet chairs facing the oversized screen. Its size and decor retain a retro movie house feel from the 1950s. A licensed bar sells wine by the glass and bottle and cheese platters you can take into the screening rooms to nibble during your show.
Each year Luna Palace Cinemas host several film festivals traversing the globe and featuring a heady collection of film titles.
The Alliance Francaise French Film Festival returns this March, showing 42 films across four weeks. Come May, films from Germany take over the listings. In November, the British Film Festival returns. Also, keep an eye out for the ST. ALi Italian Film Festival in the spring.
'Talking Pictures' events are a staple too, where audiences meet a filmmaker, or similar creative from the film industry, during a live Q&A as part of a special film screening. Past special guests have included Damon Gameau, Thomas M. Wright and Chantelle Barry. This April, Director Joseph London comes to Fremantle for a Q&A for his latest film, The Beloved.
'Exhibition On Screen' is a series of must-see art films taking audiences on a tour of art exhibitions from the world's most famous galleries broadcast on Luna on SX's screens. If missing live theatre London's National Theatre and New York's Met Opera stage performances are captured in High Definition, allowing local Perth audiences to see these recorded, live works. Next, Verdi's hugely popular La Traviata performed on Sydney Harbour that will be screened at Luna this March.
Van den Berghe pulls together "the best of the bunch", says Bective of the films on offer at Luna on SX. So, grab a choc bomb and a box of popcorn or that cheese platter. Then sink into those red velvet chairs for a night out that feels like a night 'in'.
Keep an eye out for cheap ticket prices at Luna on SX on Wednesdays (excluding festivals and special events). The Luna Palace Privilege Card offers $15 film tickets to members for all sessions.
