Sunshine Harvester Works
A collective of food stalls of international cuisines that caters to every taste, The Sunshine Harvester Works is bright and cheery as its name suggests.
Thirteen stalls have just opened with more to come, taking you to far-flung destinations like Vietnam and Japan via the USA. Here are some highlights:
Indonesian dishes by Ria Zulkarnaen and Nick Mailenzun, both of Balinese descent. The pair initially ran a food stall at the Fremantle Markets before crossing the road to FOMO. Suku's house-made Sambal Goreng, a fried chilli sauce, compliments their fried chicken and rice to perfection, with Gado-Gado, a traditional Javanese salad with a satay peanut sauce, and deep-fried tempeh also standouts on the menu.
Famed for their Japanese noodle soup, you start by choosing your base, with the choice of soy, miso or salt. Then toppings: from soft pork, fried chicken or prawn dumplings with a few veggies options, too. Side dishes include tako balls: crispy cases filled with octopus, pickled ginger and green onion cooked in a moulded pan.
Specialise in roasted meats freshly cooked daily in-house using traditional Chinese recipes. Their hero dish is Honey BBQ Pork, yet the crispy pork belly is not to be missed. Stir-fried noodles, special fried rice and soups like Chicken sweet corn soup make up the menu.
Serves up flavoursome Vietnamese eats like Bánh Mì, Pho and soldiers, traditional Vietnamese rice paper rolls. Roll'd founder Bao Hoang's love for his mama's rice paper rolls inspired the launch of the business in 2012, which has now reached the West, with dishes using traditional Vietnamese family recipes that also include dumplings, Bao, and Bún noodle salads.
Are experts in cooking up good honest burgers inspired by the American Midwest. These gourmet burgers, as the name suggests, are made to order by smashing fresh ground beef patties on the grill, then served up in a soft potato bun. Fan favourite Smashburger is packed with a beef patty, salad, house pickles, grilled onions, topped with American cheese. The Portaburger is a panko encrusted portobello mushroom with salad for vegetarians while their buttermilk chicken sarnies are also worth a try.
New York-style cookies have made their way to Fremantle. Inspired by Levain Bakery in the Big Apple, Get Chunky offers super-sized cookies and other sweet treats like milkshakes and ice cream. Biccies are baked on-site daily using locally sourced ingredients and are famed for their gooey centre. And just in time for Christmas, Get Chunky have five new cookies flavours to honour the festive season: Malteser, Mint Slice, festive M&M's, Fruit Mince and Gingerbread.
For those who are all about ice cream…with a twist. Fry'd make fried ice cream treats that start with a handmade sponge ball that’s baked before being filled with gelato. The hot/cold combo quickly became Perth favourite. They also serve up ice cream by the cone or our go-to, boba ice cream sandwiches. The new Fremantle outlet will be their flagship store, offering up flavours like Nutella, Crushed Oreos, and Ferrero Rocher.
