What began over in Queensland has quickly jumped states with the expansion of her art studio offering that now has a home in the heart of Fremantle on its colourful High Street.
Choosing her WA based location in Fremantle was an easy decision, with the port city being an artistic and, arguably, the cultural hub of Perth. And it's been a hit ever since.
Rebecca created Frida Sip n' Paint in honour of her late grandmother, Freda. Her grannies creative streak plus her stark resemblance to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo made Rebecca's connection to the name stick for her business.
The studio in Fremantle is housed in a former restaurant, a space that retains a cosy feel with its black walls contemporary chandeliers offering soft lighting and warm timber flooring. Five large tables host small easels with individual canvases. A selection of acrylic paints and brushes also sit ready for guests to create their masterpieces.
"Fremantle was chosen because it's an artsy space perfect for Frida's. The art galleries and the creative people around us make it ideal," Idmary says. "It was like magic that my love of Frida Kahlo matched that of Rebecca, so when we met, I knew I was meant to run this space."
Idmary’s passion for art goes back decades, being an accomplished painter herself before she arrived in Perth via Spain in 2019. Now Idmary, and her sweet sausage dog Nina, have become central to Frida's Fremantle, with Nina stealing the hearts of guests one brushstroke at a time.
Each paint n' sip session offers different creative themes - recent sessions include Paint Your Pet and From Freo With Love - with paints, aprons, and glassware for drinks handed out upon entry. During an art session, you can nibble on charcuterie boards and artisan cheese platters, which can be pre-ordered via Idmary from a local Freo café, with wine BYO, as you're guided through your painting session by seasoned professional artists.
The venue is also available for private groups of 15+. Or come with your kids, with prices from $35 pp for ages 7-17 years old.
Whether you're looking for a creative night out with friends or for a peaceful evening in artistic mediation, Frida's Sip n' Paint can accommodate guaranteeing an entertaining night full of creative revelry.
